My name is Shane White. I am the friend and Power of Attorney for client R.D. Mr. R.D. is a 64-year-old man I met in church 28 years ago. From 2014-2021, I had the opportunity to work with him professionally as he was a participant in a Sr. Adult Day Program where I served as the Program Manager. He required a lot of assistance with his services. When COVID hit and the program closed 2 years ago, he was left without any services or assistance from the community. It was that time that I began working with him individually to make sure he had medical care, food, transportation and increased services for care Aide. This was a very lonely time for him, and he spent most of that 2 ½ years in his room. I attempted to get him into other Adult Day Centers at the time but due to his medical needs and other reasons given, he was not accepted.
I then learned of a new Adult Day Center opening in Wilmington, the Woodstone Adult Day. When I originally told R.D. about a new Day Center, he was totally uninterested. He had gotten used to staying in his room in his same routine. I was able to convince him to visit the facility with me for the open house and he was sold on that day. The atmosphere, welcoming staff, cleanliness and activities offered caught his attention immediately. It also gave me great comfort knowing they had an R.N. on staff to assist with his many health concerns.
Woodstone Adult Day has been a God sent. R.D. looks forward to going EVERY day. He gets upset if he has to go in late because of a doctor’s appointment. One of his favorite activities is Worship Wednesday’s. Prior to attending Woodstone Adult Day, R.D.’S doctor was concerned as he was underweight. He has since gained weight and looks great. I feel comfortable knowing he has a good breakfast, lunch and snack at the center. His doctor is happy with the progress in his weight as well as the ongoing correspondence with the Nurse from Woodstone Day Center. It was a lot on me taking on R.D., voluntarily while maintaining employment and my own family. Woodstone Adult Day has provided that extra care that was so desperately needed for R.D. Monday-Friday I have the assurance that he is being cared for by a professional qualified staff. It has improved the quality of his life as well as mine. I would highly recommend Woodstone Adult Day to anyone that is caring for a family member or individual that could benefit from this service.
